現代語訳
色のことを「三笠の山の乙女子はすてて」と戯れ半分に歌って出ていかれた。なお命婦は、とても面白いと思う。事情を知らない人々は「なぜ帝がお一人で微笑んでいらっしゃるのか」と不審がり合っている。「いえ、寒い霜の朝に、搔練（かいねり）の紅色が美しい花の色合いが見えたのでしょう。お慎み深い嘰（つづし）り歌がとても趣深い」と言うと、「それは独り合点なお話ですね。この中には匂うような美人もいないようですが。左近の命婦や肥後の采女などが言い合っているのでしょうか」などと、心得顔で言い合う。お返事を差し上げたところ、宮（末摘花の宮）には女房が
