海で三ヶ月ほど鯨漁をして、千八百四十七年二月（弘化四年正月に相当する）前述のキアン島へ船を繋ぎ、薪や水を取って三十日ほど滞船しました。同所を出帆し、同年三月、ルソン島へ乗り入れました。湊の入口周りは四、五十里ほどに見え、家数の見渡しもつかないほどでした。中国、イギリス、その他諸国の商船数十艘が繋がっており、軍艦も見えました。
この島はスペイン支配とのことで、海手の城郭のような所があり、石は大砲の筒口に見えました。アメリカのコンシュル（領事）官の者へ応対するということで、船頭が上陸し、船を繋いでいる間の用向きの使いとして、私が上陸してコンシュル官の方へ参ることが度々ありました。
この海岸の地名はマニラと申すそうで、商家が多く、反物屋、米屋、酒屋、瀬戸物屋、青物屋、傘屋その他が見え、遊女屋もありました。スペイン人、アメリカ人、イギリス人、オランダ人、中国人を見かけました。海岸から一町ほど参ったところにコンシュル官の家があり、門構えの手広い家でしたが、はっきりとは覚えていません。同所の傘屋で持参用のため帽子一つを買い取ったことがありました。三ヶ月ほど滞船して同所を出帆しました。
ルソン支配の、三十里ほど離れたバタンという小島へ船を繋いで豚を買い取りました。ここは家数五十軒ほどに見え、草葺きの家で、人物はルソンと同様でした。私は上陸しなかったので詳しいことは存じません。藤組の曲物一つを船頭が上陸の節に買い取り、私がもらい受けました。この島は周囲二里ほどあり、二日ほど滞船しました。それから日本近海の太平洋の方で五ヶ月ほど

We engaged in whaling at sea for about three months, and in February 1847 (corresponding to the first month of Kōka 4), we moored our ship at the aforementioned Kian Island, took on firewood and water, and stayed for about thirty days. We departed from that place and in March of the same year, we sailed into Luzon Island. The entrance to the harbor appeared to be about forty to fifty ri in circumference, with houses too numerous to count. Dozens of merchant ships from China, England, and other countries were moored there, and warships were also visible.
This island was said to be under Spanish control, with fortifications facing the sea where stones appeared to be cannon muzzles. Since we were to deal with an American consul official, the captain went ashore, and while the ship was moored, I frequently went ashore as a messenger for various business matters to visit the consul official.
The name of this coastal area was said to be Manila, with many commercial establishments including cloth shops, rice shops, sake shops, pottery shops, vegetable shops, umbrella shops, and others, as well as brothels. I saw Spanish, American, English, Dutch, and Chinese people. About one chō from the coast was the consul's house, a spacious residence with an impressive gate, though I don't remember it clearly. I once bought a hat for personal use at an umbrella shop there. We stayed for about three months before departing from that place.
We moored at a small island called Batan, about thirty ri away under Luzon's control, to purchase pigs. This place appeared to have about fifty houses, thatched-roof dwellings, and the people were similar to those of Luzon. Since I did not go ashore, I don't know the details. The captain bought a rattan bentwood container when he went ashore, which he gave to me. This island was about two ri in circumference, and we stayed for about two days.
