英語訳

【Right Page, Upper Section】 Method for Firing Coloured Paintings onto Tea Bowls - Grind glass (hiidoro) into a fine powder, mix it with any type of paint/pigment, and paint a design onto a tea bowl. Place the tea bowl into a ceramic vessel such as a fire-box (hi-ire), cover the top with a roof tile, seal the opening tightly, and then 【Left Page, Upper Section】 fire it over a charcoal flame. A splendid enamelled painting will be produced. Scraps of glass can be found at metalware/hardware shops. Treatment for Something Lodged in a Sandal [i.e., a Thorn in the Foot from a Straw Sandal] - When travelling and something has pierced through one's waraji (straw sandals) into the foot, it becomes difficult to walk. In that case, [grasp] the big toe of the affected foot [and — continued on the next page]. 【Right Page, Lower Section】 Method for Quickly Pickling Kazunoko (Herring Roe) - When one wishes to pickle kazunoko quickly, add a small amount of sufficiently aged wall clay (plaster) to the brine and pickle [the roe] in it. Method for Storing Katsuobushi (Dried Bonito) - To store katsuobushi, apply sake to it and set it aside. Even on hot summer days, insects will not get into it. Method for Keeping Green Yuzu with Leaves Attached for a Long Time - If you wish to keep green yuzu (citrus) with its leaves attached for a long time, split a length of fresh bamboo lengthwise, place the yuzu inside, and then fit the split ends of the bamboo back together so that they align perfectly without any gap. Wrap the whole thing tightly with bamboo bark. When you need to use them and take them out, 【Left Page, Lower Section】 they will be as fresh as freshly picked, even after a year has passed. Method for Correcting Miso That Has Spoiled and Become Sour [or Mouldy] - Wash three stalks of seri (Japanese parsley / water parsley) — a mixture of female seri (mezeri) and male seri (ozeri) — thoroughly, shake off the moisture well, and plant them with their roots still attached in the north-western (inu-i) corner of the miso [container]. When the seri has turned red, remove it. The miso will then regain a good flavour. How to Keep Soba Noodles from Spoiling Even After Being Left for a Day - When kneading soba, add a small amount of go-jiru (the liquid drained from ground soybeans) and knead it in. Even if left for a day after making, the soba will not spoil.
