【Right folio, upper section】 (Margin) Page 51 **Method for Making Fireworks Incense (Hanabi Senkō)** Ingredients: - Saltpeter (焔硝, *enshō*) - Realgar (雄黄, *yūō*) - Camphor (樟脳, *shōnō*) - Iron powder - Hemp ash Adjust the proportions so that the realgar is in a suitable amount. Grind the above ingredients with a *yagen* (mortar-like grinding tool), knead with a thin paste like rice cake glue, attach to a spiked grass stalk (*igara*), and let dry. --- **How to Make a Casting Net (Tōami)** 【Left folio, upper section】 To make a casting net, first create eighty mesh openings. Tie the ends together as per the customary method. After eight rows, add one mesh every five meshes, yielding twenty additional meshes, for a total of one hundred. After five more rows, at the sixth row, attach the upper suspension cord, 【Right folio, lower section】 and affix it securely. This method has proven effective. --- **Treatment for a Centipede Sting** Using your finger, write the character 王 (*ō*, "king") on a dry patch of ground. Take the soil from the center of that character and apply it to the sting. It will heal immediately. --- **Treatment for a Bee Sting** On the ground, use a bamboo stick to write the three characters 丙丁火 (*Hinoe, Hinoto, Fire*). Recite these seven times silently in your mouth. Take the soil from where the characters were written and rub it onto the sting. --- **Incantation to Repel Mosquitoes** *Tenchi* (Heaven and Earth), *Taisei* (Great Clarity), *Jitsugetsu* (Sun and Moon), *Taimei* (Great Brightness), *In'yō* (Yin and Yang), *Taikwa* (Great Harmony), *Kyūkyū* (Swiftly, swiftly)— 【Left folio, lower section】 —as the edict of the law commands! Face a dark place and recite this text seven times. Blow upon the tip of a lamp wick, then light a fire using that same wick. All mosquitoes will be driven away. --- **Incantation to Drive Away Fleas and Lice** Write the seven characters 欠我青州木瓜銭 on paper and affix it under the floorboards. They will vanish immediately. --- **Method to Drive Away Flies** Store water collected from a Shinto shrine (*miya-mizu*) in the twelfth month. In summer, sprinkle it on sweets, food, and drink, and flies will naturally go away. Another method: At the Hour of the Horse on the fifth day of the fifth month, write the character 白 (*shiro*, "white") on paper and affix it upside-down on the four sides of pillars.
