一三月八十八夜より十日程前に蚕種を取出し種
　壱枚を宮本紙三枚程継ゆるやかに包茶の間
　又は二階（にかひ）など少々火気の行 温（あたゝか）なる処へ掛置へし
　蚕は陰虫なる故少しにても日の差所に置へ
　からず始終共に仮初（かりそめ）にも日にて温（あたゝか）むる事なかれ
　　　　蚕 掃（はき）おろしよふの事
一八十八夜過種に青み出しつゝ種を中綿に包 骨柳（こり）抔へ
　ゆるやかに入前にいふ如くの所へ掛置毎日一両度つゝ
　明て陽気を入夫ゟ蚕出候節日中陽気盛ん成る
　時少も風の当ぬ所にて包紙を披（ひら）き切 桑（くは）又は椹（ぐみ）
　のもみたるを程よくふりかけて暫置て蚕葉へ
　付たる頃種紙の裏（うら）へ廻りたる蚕を羽にて掃落し
　則包紙を直に器（うつは）の糖（ぬか）の上へ敷て種紙の後先を
　持裏より箸（はし）にてそろ〳〵と打落すべし是出掛り候

現代語訳

一、三月の八十八夜より十日程前に蚕種を取り出し、種
　一枚を宮本紙三枚程で継ぎ、ゆるやかに包んで茶の間
　又は二階など少々火気の行く温かな処へ掛けて置くべし。
　蚕は陰虫であるので少しでも日の差す所に置いては
　いけない。始終共に仮にも日で温めることをしてはならない。
　　　　蚕の掃きおろし方について
一、八十八夜過ぎに種に青みが出てきたら種を中綿に包み、籠柳などへ
　ゆるやかに入れ、前に言うような所へ掛けて置き、毎日一両度ずつ
　開けて陽気を入れる。それから蚕が出る際、日中陽気が盛んな
　時、少しも風の当たらない所で包み紙を開き、切り桑又は椹
　の揉んだものを程よく振りかけて暫く置いて、蚕が葉へ
　付いた頃、種紙の裏へ回った蚕を羽で掃き落とし、
　すぐに包み紙を直接器の糠の上へ敷いて、種紙の後先を
　持ち、裏から箸でそろそろと打ち落とすべし。これが出がかりである。

1. About ten days before the eighty-eighth night of the third month, take out the silkworm eggs, wrap one sheet of eggs loosely with about three sheets of miyamoto paper, and hang them in a slightly warm place where heat reaches, such as a tea room or second floor. Since silkworms are shade-loving insects, they should not be placed even slightly in places where sunlight shines. Throughout the entire process, never warm them with sunlight, even temporarily.
　　　　Regarding the Method of Sweeping Down Silkworms
1. After the eighty-eighth night passes and the eggs begin to show a bluish tint, wrap the eggs in cotton batting, place them loosely in a basket or willow container, hang them in a place as described above, and open them once or twice daily to let in fresh air. Then, when the silkworms emerge, during the day when the weather is most favorable, in a place with no wind at all, open the wrapping paper, sprinkle an appropriate amount of chopped mulberry or elaeagnus that has been rubbed, and leave it for a while. When the silkworms have attached to the leaves, sweep off with a feather the silkworms that have gone around to the back of the seed paper. Then immediately lay the wrapping paper directly on top of rice bran in a container, hold both ends of the seed paper, and gently tap it down from the back with chopsticks. This is the hatching process.
