つゝき【▢囲み】道とくをつむといふ井（ゐ）の内（うち）の蛙（かはす）は
大海（だいかい）をしらず蓼（たで）をはむ虫（むし）は甘露（かんろ）
あることを知らず文盲（もんまう）なる
ものは万（よろつ）に疑（うたが）ひをおこす也
水精（すいしやう）を日（ひ）に向（むけ）て火（ひ）を
とり月にむけて水を
とるとかたりしらざる
人は疑（うたか）ふべし学（まなび）て徳（とく）を
備んことかたき事にあらす

蛇（へび）は足（あし）なくしてあるき蝉（せみ）は
口なくして鳴（なき）魚（うを）は耳（みゝ）なくして
聞（きく）これ目前（もくぜん）のふしぎなりされば
知らざるを疑（うたが）ふなり習（なら）ひ覚て
広大（くわうだい）なることを知るべし高山（かうざん）に
のぼらずしては天（てん）の高（たか）き
事しるべからず学びて知る
ものは稲（いね）のごとし学ばずして愚痴（ぐち）
なるは藁（わら）の如し稲（いね）は世上（せじやう）の宝（たから）といはれ つきへ【▢囲み】

大海を知らず、蓼を食む虫は甘露が
あることを知らない。文盲である
者は万事に疑いを起こすものである。
水晶を日に向けて火を
取り、月に向けて水を
取ると語っても、知らない
人は疑うであろう。学んで徳を
備えることは難しいことではない。

蛇は足がなくて歩き、蝉は
口がなくて鳴き、魚は耳がなくて
聞く。これは目前の不思議である。だから
知らないことを疑うのである。習い覚えて
広大なことを知るべきである。高山に
登らなくては天の高い
ことは知ることができない。学んで知る
者は稲のようなものであり、学ばずして愚かな
者は藁のようなものである。稲は世上の宝と言われ 続く【▢囲み】

when directed toward the moon, those who do not
know will doubt it. Learning and
acquiring virtue is not a difficult thing.

Snakes walk without feet, cicadas
cry without mouths, and fish
hear without ears. These are the mysteries before our eyes. Therefore,
we doubt what we do not know. By learning and remembering,
we should come to know vast things. Without climbing
high mountains, we cannot know how high
heaven is. Those who learn and gain knowledge
are like rice plants; those who do not learn and remain foolish
