現代語訳
【右丁】
ある人の説によると、市谷は昔は市が立った土地であったため「市買」と書いたという。しかしながら詳細は明らかではない。
考えてみると、鎌倉鶴岡八幡宮に所蔵されている延文三年十二月二十二日の足利基氏の古い証文に「鶴岡八幡の雑掌が申し上げるには、武蔵国金曽木彦三郎、市谷四郎等の件について、江戸淡路守の押領を止め、正和元年八月十一日の寄進状に従って、社家に付けて処理されるべし」とある。これを証拠とすべきである。
社地には芝居小屋や楊弓場などがあって常に賑やかである。また社前の大通りは四谷への往来道で、往き来する人が絶え間ない。

According to one person's theory, Ichigaya was formerly a place where markets were held, hence it was written as "Ichikai" (market buying). However, the details are not clear.
Upon consideration, in an old document by Ashikaga Motouji dated the 22nd day of the 12th month of Enbun 3 (1358), preserved at Kamakura Tsurugaoka Hachimangu, it states: "The temple administrator of Tsurugaoka Hachiman reports that regarding the matter of Kanasoki Hikosaburo and Ichiya Shiro of Musashi Province, the seizure by Edo Awaji-no-kami should be stopped, and in accordance with the donation document of the 11th day of the 8th month of Showa 1 (1312), it should be handled through the shrine family." This should serve as evidence.
On the shrine grounds there are theater stages and archery ranges, making it constantly lively. Also, the main road in front of the shrine is the thoroughfare to Yotsuya, with people coming and going incessantly.
