もとより重々しい書物の上に勤しんでいて、物語
書を専門とする程ではないが、今このような文の
大要を理解されているのも並大抵ではない。また百首余りの
歌の時々の事柄が、世の並みでないのも一層
明らかである。これは人の求めに応じて作られたもので、翁にとっては
とても気軽なことであったが、花や紅葉は一枝を見て
その色が分かり、綾錦は一糸を手にしてその模様が
分かるものである。書物や和歌の文においても、知る人こそが

見分けることができるのである。かつて古の大聖人が、
国の宝として愛でて称賛なさった、この紫式部の
筆の綾なのであるから、世の子供たちに口ずさませ、親しま
せておこうと、このように作られたのは良いことである。萩を手折れば、
移すともなしに、その裾に香りが移り、桜を手折れば、
移すともなしに、その袖が香るものである。幼い頃から
これを見、これを学び、これに親しんでいけば、自然と
