現代語訳
【右丁 上段】
致仕の大臣の異腹の娘である。この歌は姉の雲井の雁と夕霧との仲を裂かれて嘆いている頃、夕霧に詠みかけたものである。歌の意味は、思う人によりどころなくさまよっていらっしゃるなら、私の身がその代わりに君になびこうと思います。心を決めて返事を聞かせてください、という心を沖を漕ぐ船に例えて言ったものである。

【左丁 上段】
弘徽殿の女御の女房である。この歌は近江の君のもとから御姉である弘徽殿の女御の御方への手紙に「草若み近江の海のいかが崎いかで逢ひみん田子の浦波」と詠んで送ってきた返歌を、女御に代わって詠んだものである。歌の意味は、立ち出て来てください、待っています、ということを常陸・駿河・摂津・筑前の四国を入れて訳もなく綴ったものである。近江の君の歌の意味不明なのに合わせて戯れたものである。

【Right Page, Upper Section】
She was a daughter of the Retired Minister by a different mother. This poem was composed and sent to Yūgiri during the time when she was lamenting that her elder sister Kumoi no Kari and Yūgiri had been separated. The meaning of the poem is: If the one you love is drifting without refuge on the waves, then let my body take that place and yield to you, my lord. Please make up your mind and give me an answer. She expresses this sentiment by likening it to a boat rowing on the open sea.

【Left Page, Upper Section】
She was a court lady serving the Kokiden Consort. This poem was composed in place of the Consort as a reply to a letter that Ōmi no Kimi had sent to her elder sister, the Kokiden Consort, containing the poem: "Young grass of Ōmi's sea at Ikaga Point—how shall we meet at Tago Bay's waves?" The meaning is "Please come out to meet me, I am waiting," incorporating the four provinces of Hitachi, Suruga, Settsu, and Chikuzen, strung together nonsensically. This was composed as a playful response matching the meaningless nature of Ōmi no Kimi's poem.
