つらかにえらひなせる心しらひ【心くばり】はもとより

中昔よりいてきにける物語ふみかすおほく
あなれと其名計のこりて今は世につたはら
ぬもあまたなるへしされと風葉集えらはれける
頃まてはなほのこれりとみえて今の世にしらぬ物
かたりの名とも入られたるもすくなからすなむ
有けるかく今の世につたはれるもつたはらさるも【別本による】

【右丁】
つらつらと選び編集した心配りは、もとより
素晴らしい色合いに、いっそう艶を加えた
苦労であると言うべきでしょう。
天保の十（1839年）という年の弥生
初め頃、須原の夏蔭が記す。
【左丁】
昔からこの世に出てきた物語や書物は数多く
あったようだが、その名前だけが残って今は世に伝わら
ないものも多数あるはずです。しかし『風葉集』が選ばれた
頃まではまだ残っていたと見えて、今の世に知らない物語
の名前として挙げられているものも少なくありません。
このように今の世に伝わっているものも伝わっていないものも
ある物語の中で、『源氏物語』ばかりは巻数も

and not a few are included as names of tales
unknown in our present world.
Thus, among the tales that are transmitted or not transmitted to our present world,
only the Tale of Genji, with its number of chapters...
