女童（めのわらは）の名（な）也是は左（ひだり）につきて
負方（まけがた）の方人（かたうど）せし人（ひと）也 歌（うた）の
心はさばかり我（わが）物 顔（がほ）にもたま
へども花（はな）は風（かぜ）の自由（じゆう）に吹散（ふきちら）

現代語訳
【右丁 上段】
女童の名である。これは左につき、負け方の味方をした人である。歌の心は、「それほど我が物顔にお思いになっても、花は風の自由に吹き散らすものであるのに、その匂いをも人の方には散らすまいとお思いになっても、大空を覆うほどの大きな袖が世にあるものでしょうか、ありはしません」と言い負かしたのである。右の「大空の風に散れども」という歌を受けて、「大空を覆うばかりの袖もがな」という歌で詠んだのである。

【左丁 上段】
同じ場所の女房である。この歌は蔵人少将上の件にある碁の争いを垣間見て、自分が心を寄せる姉君が負けたのを悔しく思い、傍にいて助言したならば勝たせたものを、と思って、「いでやなど、数ならぬ身にかなわぬは、人に負けじの心なりけり」と詠んだ返歌である。歌の心は、「とんでもないことをおっしゃることですね。打つ人の強い弱いによる勝負なのに、他人の心一つでどうして左右できるものでしょうか」ということである。「わりなし」は「理無し」である。

【Right Page, Upper Section】
This is the name of a young girl. She was someone who supported the left side, the losing side. The heart of her poem is: "Even if you think of them so possessively as your own, flowers are things that the wind freely scatters. Even if you think not to let their fragrance scatter toward others, are there sleeves in this world large enough to cover the great sky? There are not!" She argued back in this way. In response to the right side's poem "Though scattered by the wind of the great sky," she composed this poem with the sentiment "If only there were sleeves vast enough to cover the great sky."

This is a lady-in-waiting from the same place. This poem was composed after she glimpsed the go match mentioned in the Chamberlain Minor Captain's section, and felt regret that the elder lady she favored had lost. Thinking that if she had been beside her offering advice, she could have made her win, she composed this reply poem: "Well now, for one of no account like myself, what I cannot accomplish must be due to a spirit of not wanting to lose to others." The heart of the poem is: "What an unreasonable thing to say! When victory and defeat depend on the strength or weakness of the players, how can it be influenced by another person's feelings alone?" "Warinashi" means "unreasonable" (without reason).
