経ニ触レテハ之ヲ刺-撃衝-動シテ、邪ノ為メニ圧-閉
セラレテ、其働キ将ニ廃-絶セントスルヲ発セシム、
是ニ於テ神-経動クヿヲ得テ、排-発ノ機自ラ生シ、駆
邪ノ功由テ成￣ル者ナリ、然ルニ収-歛補-益ノ薬ハ、凝-体
現代語訳
一時に勝利を制すべきである。故に治法の要は、補虚救脱（虚を補い脱を救う）ことに務めるのではなく、輔正駆邪（正気を助け邪気を駆逐する）ことに務めるのである。正気が一度奮い立てば、分排の機能が自然に発動し、邪気は持久することができず、やがて崩れて逃げ去る。これは西洋の哲人が伝えるところであり、私が心服するところの、万世不易の公論である。後世の者があったとしても、これに異議を唱えることはできないであろう。
第四十章 香竄揮発と収斂補益には区別がある
香竄揮発の薬は、味が辛く質が軽く、走って止まらず、散じて聚まらない。経脈筋骨毫末の間で、達しない所はなく、気を通じ血を行らせ、以て生生運化の機能を佐け、邪毒をして聚注する所がないようにさせる。故によく正を輔け邪を駆ることができる。収斂補益の如きは則ち然らず、質が重く味が渋り、実を以て虚を填む。故によく無毒漏脱の病を療することができるが、破結駆邪の薬とは、自ずから黒白の弁じやすい違いがある。
香竄揮発の薬は、性質が軽くして気中に昇散する。すなわち密封して蔵むといえども、その香が鼻を撲つことを以て証すべきである。故にこれを服すれば、脈絡筋骨繊微の間に至るまでも穿ち入ることを得る。故に邪に会っては之を解散し、神経に触れては之を刺撃衝動して、邪のために圧閉されて、その働きが将に廃絶せんとするを発せしむ。ここにおいて神経が動くことを得て、排発の機能が自ら生じ、駆邪の功が由って成るものである。然るに収斂補益の薬は、凝体

Therefore, the essence of therapeutic methods is not to focus on tonifying deficiency and rescuing collapse, but rather to concentrate on supporting vital energy and expelling pathogenic factors. Once vital energy is aroused, the mechanism of separation and expulsion naturally activates, pathogenic factors cannot persist, and will eventually collapse and flee. This is what Western philosophers have transmitted, and what I deeply respect - a universal principle unchanging through all ages. Even if there are those who come after, they cannot raise objections to this.
Chapter 40: There is a Distinction Between Aromatic Penetrating Volatile Medicines and Astringent Tonifying Medicines
Aromatic penetrating volatile medicines have an acrid taste and light quality, moving without stopping, dispersing without gathering. Among the meridians, muscles, bones, and finest details, there is nowhere they do not reach. They facilitate qi circulation and blood flow, thereby assisting the mechanism of vital transformation, causing pathogenic toxins to have no place to accumulate. Therefore, they can support vital energy and expel pathogenic factors. Astringent tonifying medicines, however, are different - they are heavy in quality and astringent in taste, using substance to fill deficiency. Therefore, they can treat diseases of non-toxic leakage and collapse, but they have an easily distinguishable black-and-white difference from medicines that break up accumulations and expel pathogenic factors.
Aromatic penetrating volatile medicines are light in nature and ascend and disperse in the qi realm. Even when sealed and stored, this can be proven by how their fragrance strikes the nose. Therefore, when taken, they can penetrate even into the finest spaces between pulse networks, muscles, bones, and minute fibers. When encountering pathogenic factors, they disperse them; when touching the nervous system, they stimulate and activate it, causing what has been compressed and blocked by pathogenic factors and is about to cease functioning to be activated. At this point, the nervous system can move, the mechanism of expulsion naturally arises, and the achievement of expelling pathogenic factors is thereby accomplished.
