小児（せうに）にわかにさむけだちにわか
に熱（ねつ）を発（はつ）し目を見つめ一日に

現代語訳
疱瘡の妙薬方
小児が突然寒気を感じ、突然熱を発し、目をじっと見つめ、一日に二、三度も気を失い、身もだえし、あくびをし、驚き騒ぎ、くしゃみをし、鼻水が出て、両方の顎が赤くなり、耳が痛むのは疱瘡の兆候である。

これが日数の通常であり、病気の正常な経過である。その重いものは日数に限りがないであろう。また極めて軽いものは右の日数を待たずに治るといっても、十五日目に酒湯をして神を送るべきものである。
○疱瘡を除く方法
梨の枝（一束、七本） 梅の枝 同じく上記の通り
小豆七粒 鼠の糞 七つ
右の四種類に白い水を鏡の家の蓋で七杯煎じて行水すべし。疱瘡を逃れることができる。
○同じく軽くする奇方
紅花二分 牛蒡子二分
陳皮十匁 枳殻十匁
黒豆二合 青大豆二合
桑の木長さ一尺 桃の木同じく上記の通り
桑と桃ともに末端の部分で三分ほどの枝
右の八種類に水五升を入れて三升に煎じ、小児の全身を残らず洗うべし。
○伸応湯
黄芩（一分七厘）甘草（炙って一分七厘）
唐大黄（男子ならば六分八厘、女子ならば一匁）
右の三種類を細かい粉末にしてもみの布に包み、振り出して五度でも七度でも飲ませるべし。大抵は疱瘡を逃れるであろう。たとえ出たとしても極めて軽い。

Miraculous Medicine Formula for Smallpox
When a child suddenly feels chills, suddenly develops fever, stares fixedly, faints two or three times a day, writhes in pain, yawns, becomes startled and agitated, sneezes, has nasal discharge, both jaws become red, and ears hurt - these are signs of smallpox.
Fever onset: 3 days Rash appearance: 3 days
Pustulation: 3 days Swelling: 3 days
Recovery: 3 days Total duration: 15 days
This is the normal duration and proper course of the disease. For severe cases, there may be no limit to the number of days. For extremely mild cases, though they may heal before the aforementioned duration, one should still perform the sake bath ritual and send off the deity on the fifteenth day.
○ Method to prevent smallpox
Pear branches (one bundle, seven pieces) Plum branches (same as above)
Seven azuki beans Seven mouse droppings
Boil the above four ingredients with white water in a mirror house lid for seven servings and perform ablutions. This will help escape smallpox.
○ Miraculous method to make it milder
Safflower: 2 bu Burdock seeds: 2 bu
Dried citrus peel: 10 monme Bitter orange: 10 monme
Black beans: 2 gō Green soybeans: 2 gō
Mulberry wood 1 shaku long Peach wood (same length)
Both mulberry and peach should be tip branches about 3 bu thick
Add 5 shō of water to the above eight ingredients, boil down to 3 shō, and wash the child's entire body without exception.
○ Shin'ō-tō decoction
Scutellaria (1 bu 7 rin) Licorice (roasted, 1 bu 7 rin)
Chinese rhubarb (6 bu 8 rin for boys, 1 monme for girls)
Grind the above three ingredients into fine powder, wrap in hemp cloth, and give as an infusion five to seven times. This will usually help escape smallpox. Even if it appears, it will be extremely mild.
