給ふよへにこたうにさきたちゆきて
くはんをんゑんまわうにこひうけ
たてまつらんとすかなはすはこの

松とたのみて

してうつゝともゆめとも思ひわけ
給はすむねうちさはきてさては
みやうしんの御しけんなりとたつ

といふところをゆめにまかせてたつ

お与えくださるように、この世で先立って行って、観音と閻魔王に恋を受け入れていただこうとしても叶わないなら、この翁が身代わりとなって、今一度君にお会いさせ申し上げよう。ただし、明日の午の刻にお尋ねしてお会い申し上げなければ、どうなってしまうであろうか」と言って、
「尋ね見よ 難波の
海人の濡れ衣
この住吉の
松と頼みて」
と言って、「早々と」と言ってこの翁は狩衣の

袖を結んで肩にかけ、急いで去っていかれると思うと、心地がぼんやりとして、現実とも夢ともお思い分けになられず、胸がどきどきして、「それでは明神の御試練であったのだ」と、とても頼もしく思って、急いで御社をお立ち出でになって、難波という所を夢に任せてお尋ねしてみようとおっしゃると、

Saying "Make haste," this old man tied the sleeves of his hunting robe

and hung them over his shoulder, departing in haste. As this happened, the Middle Captain's mind became hazy, unable to distinguish between reality and dream. His heart pounding, he thought, "This must have been a trial from the deity," and feeling greatly encouraged, he quickly departed from the shrine. He resolved to search for the place called Naniwa, entrusting himself to his dream.
