わか君たにもおはしまさはいます
こしはなくさみ給ふへき物をなと
申ほとにあかつきになりてひめ
君すこしまとろみ給ひけりすけは
この御ありさまいかにせんと思へは
つゆまとろます松風さよちとり
いそにつなみのをとにひめ君おと
ろき給ひてたゝいまゆめに中将
度のれいのところよりかへりたる
心ちしていつよりもこよひはあ
まり物うくてあかしかねてこそ
まちつれ御身のおもひもたゝ
おなしなみたなりとてそてを

かきくとく此ほとのうらみをいふ
まてもなくてうちおとろきつる
よとてなみたにむせひ給へはこそ

夜あけぬれはかきをき給ひて

現代語訳

我が君だけでもいらっしゃれば、今少し
は慰められるでしょうに」などと
申すうちに暁になって、姫
君は少しまどろみなさった。介は
この御様子をどうしようかと思うと
全く眠れない。松風や夜千鳥、
磯に津波の音で姫君はお目覚め
になって「たった今夢に中将が
いつものところから帰って来た
気持ちがして、いつよりも今夜は
あまりに物憂くて夜を明かしかねて
待っていました。お身の思いも同じく
同じ涙です」と言って袖を

絞りなさるほどに「私も一緒に
泣きながら、この頃の恨みを言う
間もなくて、はっと目覚めてしまった
よ」と言って涙に咽びなさるので「そうして
このようにご覧になったのでしょう」と申し上げる。姫君は
涙の合間からこのように詠まれた。
露の身の今を
限りと思うにも
ただ恋しきは
都なりけり
夜が明けたので書き置きなさって
「私が亡くなった後の形見に」と

"If only our lord were here, you would be
somewhat consoled now," and so on she said.
As it became dawn, the young princess
dozed off a little. The attendant,
thinking what to do about her condition,
could not sleep at all. With the pine wind, night plovers,
and the sound of waves on the shore, the princess awoke
and said, "Just now in a dream, the Middle Captain
returned from his usual place,
and I felt that tonight more than any other night was
so melancholy that I could not bear to pass the night
and was waiting. Your feelings are surely
the same tears," and she wrung her sleeves.

"I too was weeping together with you,
and before I could speak of recent grievances,
I suddenly awoke,"
she said, sobbing with tears. "That is how
you came to see such a vision," the attendant replied. The princess
composed this poem through her tears:
Though I think this dewdrop life
now reaches its end,
what I long for
is still the capital
As day broke, she wrote her final words:
"As a keepsake after I am gone..."
