一此度コロリとカ申病流行ニ而沢山ニ病死
致候もの数万人之由日本橋向京橋辺ハ別
而沢山死去致候由横山町通筋葬礼一日ニ
百五六十位ツヽ日々通行ニ御座候昼夜之
差別無之候江戸近在迄も流行致候由ニ而
早桶等も間ニ合兼酒樽天水桶等へ入取仕
抹致候由ニ御座候輿屋ニ而も昼夜之差別
なく細工致候得とも何分ニも間ニ合不申
咄ニ御座候間ニハ焼場より帰り候桶等も
有之夫ヲ売遣し候様ニも聞及申候焼場抔
ニ而も死人沢山故一夜ニ焼切るト申事ニ
も不相成候間三四百人位ツヽも積重ね置
日数廿日余りツヽも置不申候而ハ焼キ兼
候由咄候様に御座候へ共全之由承り申候

一、この度コレラという病気が流行して、大変多くの病死者を出している。数万人に及ぶとのことで、日本橋向こう京橋辺りは特に多数の死者を出しているとのこと。横山町通り筋では葬礼が一日に百五、六十ほど日々通行している。昼夜の区別なく行われている。江戸近在まで流行しているとのことで、早桶（棺桶）なども間に合わず、酒樽や天水桶などに入れて処理しているとのことである。輿屋（棺桶職人）でも昼夜の区別なく細工しているが、何分にも間に合わないという話である。中には焼場から帰ってきた桶なども有り、それを売り渡しているようなことも聞いている。焼場などでも死人が大変多いため、一夜で焼き切るということもできず、三、四百人ほどずつ積み重ね置き、日数二十日余りずつ置かなければ焼ききれないという話のようであるが、本当のことかは分からない。その他土葬も大変多いと見受けられる。右、大まかに申し上げた。八月十八日

1. This time a disease called "korori" (cholera) has spread, causing a great number of deaths from illness. It is said to number in the tens of thousands, with the area from Nihonbashi toward Kyōbashi having particularly large numbers of deaths. Along Yokoyama-chō street, about 150-160 funeral processions pass by daily. There is no distinction between day and night. The epidemic has spread even to the outskirts of Edo, and coffins (hayaoke) cannot keep up with demand, so bodies are being placed in sake barrels and rainwater tubs for disposal. Even the coffin makers work day and night without rest, but they simply cannot keep up with demand. I have even heard that some barrels returned from cremation grounds are being sold and reused. At the cremation grounds, there are so many corpses that they cannot burn them all in one night, so they stack up 300-400 bodies at a time, and it takes more than twenty days before they can burn them all - though I cannot confirm if this is entirely true.
