一　私在所先達而先御届申上候通大地震ニ而更級郡山平
　　林村之内岩倉山抜崩犀川え押埋二ケ所堰
　　留追々数十丈湛溜候所一両日前ゟ水漏候得共
　　下之方堰留候場所え乗候ニ付未弐丈余も有之候処
　　俄ニ押破候と相見へ昨十三日夕七時過右山之方大ニ致震動
　　引続瀬鳴之音高く相聞へ一時激水右川筋え押
　　出シ忽左右之土堤押切或は乗越防方も届兼候旨
　　川方役人共ゟ追々致注進候所間も無之川中島数
　　十ケ村一円ニ水押千曲川え流込逆流既ニ居城
　　際迄水多く押上り暮時頃ゟ九時迄ニ千曲川常水ゟ
　　弐丈計相増川中島ハ勿論高井郡水内郡之内川
添村々水中ニ相成瀬筋相立候様相見候所も数ケ所在之
　　作物泥冠りハ勿論押掘候場所夥敷可在之候へ共
　　難見極夜中過ニ及候而潮水丈も相立候様子ニ候処

年賦返納の件については別紙をもって願い出るようにいたしますので、拝借をお命じいただき、お下げ金を成し下されるよう仕りたく存じます。これにより災害を受けた村々の一村限りの帳面一冊を添えて、この段お伺い申し上げます。以上

一　私の在所において、先達って先にお届け申し上げました通り、大地震により更級郡山平林村の内、岩倉山が崩落し犀川に押し埋まって二か所で堰き止められ、だんだんと数十丈も水が溜まったところ、一両日前から水が漏れていましたが、下の方の堰き止め場所に乗り上げたため、まだ二丈余りもある状況でした。ところが俄かに押し破られたと見え、昨日十三日夕方七時過ぎ、右の山の方で大いに震動し、引き続いて瀬鳴りの音が高く聞こえ、一時に激流がその川筋に押し出し、たちまち左右の土手を押し切り、或いは乗り越えて防ぎ方も行き届かない旨を、川方役人どもから次々と注進してきました。間もなく川中島数十か村が一円に水に押され、千曲川に流れ込んで逆流し、すでに居城の際まで水が多く押し上がり、暮れ時頃から九時までに千曲川は常水より二丈ほど増水し、川中島はもちろん高井郡水内郡の内の川添いの村々が水中になり、瀬筋が立ったように見える所も数か所ありました。作物が泥をかぶったのはもちろん、押し掘られた場所も夥しくあると思われますが、見極めが難しく、夜中過ぎに及んで潮のように水位も上がったような様子でした。

First, regarding my territory, as I previously reported, due to the great earthquake, Iwakura Mountain within Hirabayashi Village in Sarashina District collapsed and was pushed into the Sai River, creating dams at two locations where water gradually accumulated to a depth of several tens of jō. Although water had been leaking for the past day or two, because it was riding over the dam site downstream, there was still more than two jō of water remaining. However, it appears the dam suddenly burst, and yesterday on the 13th after seven o'clock in the evening, the mountain area shook violently, followed by the loud sound of rushing water. Torrential water suddenly rushed out along the river course, immediately breaking through or overflowing the embankments on both sides, with flood control measures proving inadequate, as reported in succession by river officials. Soon after, dozens of villages in Kawanakajima were completely flooded, with water flowing into the Chikuma River and creating a backflow that reached nearly to the castle grounds. From evening until around nine o'clock, the Chikuma River rose about two jō above normal levels, submerging not only Kawanakajima but also villages along rivers in Takai and Minochi districts. There were several locations where new channels appeared to have formed. Crops were naturally covered in mud, and there appear to be numerous places that were carved out by the rushing water, though it was difficult to assess the full extent. Even past midnight, the water level seemed to continue rising like a tide.
