中島辺ゟ善光寺夫ゟ南え当り山中と唱候一郷村近辺重キ地
震と相見え川中島辺ハ民家一村不残焼失致候村々も有之
一村三百四拾人位ゟ二三百人程も即死怪我人有之善光寺
町ハ家並不残震倒シ其上焼失大造之即死怪我人
等有之都而往還筋は善光寺供養ニ付夥敷旅人
泊り合せ居候故死人も多く有之候由山中辺は手遠く片
寄候ゆへ様子難相分候へ共犀川土手ニ而山崩有之川中
島流水更ニ無之丹波島渡船場干上りニ相成歩行渡り
致候様ニ相成候越後表之儀ハ如何御座候哉様子相分り不
申候右風聞迄之儀ニ而聢と難相分候間早速手代
差遣シ支配所潰家其外見分吟味之上外最寄之
村々損耗ヲも風聞相糺委細之儀は追而可申上候且御
領所陣屋附同国佐久郡村々之儀ヲも前同様大地震
致候へ共善光寺辺とハ里数も相隔候次第御座候当陣
屋并支配所其外最寄私領村々ヲも纔宛之破家
等有之候へ共為差儀も無之怪我人亡所無御座候先不取敢

川中島辺りから善光寺、それから南に当たる山中と呼ばれる一郷の村近辺で重い地震があったと見え、川中島辺りでは民家が一村残らず焼失した村々もあり、一村で三百四十人位から二、三百人程も即死、怪我人がおります。善光寺町では家並みが残らず震倒し、その上焼失し、大変な数の即死者、怪我人等がおります。すべて往還筋は善光寺供養のため夥しい数の旅人が泊まり合わせていた故、死人も多くあった由です。山中辺りは手遠く片寄っているため様子がわかりかねますが、犀川の土手で山崩れがあり、川中島は流水が全くなくなり、丹波島の渡船場は干上がって歩行で渡ることができるようになりました。越後表の件はいかがでしょうか、様子がわかりません。右は風聞までの件で確かなことはわかりかねますので、早速手代を差し遣わし、支配所の潰れた家その外を見分・吟味の上、外の最寄りの村々の損耗をも風聞で調べ、詳細については追って申し上げます。また御領所陣屋付きの同国佐久郡村々の件も前同様大地震がありましたが、善光寺辺りとは里数も相隔たっている次第でございます。当陣屋並びに支配所その外最寄りの私領村々にもわずかな破家等はありますが、差したる事もなく、怪我人・死亡者はございません。まずは取り急ぎこの件をお届け申し上げます。以上

From the Kawanakajima area to Zenkoji Temple, and from there toward the south in the area called Sanchu, there appears to have been a severe earthquake near the villages of this district. In the Kawanakajima area, there are villages where all the private houses in entire villages burned down without exception. In one village, from about 340 people, some 200 to 300 people died instantly or were injured. In Zenkoji town, all the rows of houses collapsed from shaking and then burned down, resulting in a tremendous number of instant deaths and injuries. Since the entire highway area had numerous travelers staying overnight for Zenkoji memorial services, there were reportedly many deaths. The mountain areas are remote and isolated, so the situation is difficult to understand, but there was a mountain collapse at the Sai River embankment, causing the Kawanakajima area to have no flowing water at all, and the Tanba-jima ferry crossing dried up, making it possible to cross on foot. Regarding the situation in Echigo Province, I do not know how things stand there, as the situation is unclear.
