Chapter Five
Upon hearing of these events without delay, Sake reported them to Shōchū-no-Chūnagon Morohaku-kyō (Lord Morohaku, Middle Counselor Shōchū), who hastened to make a report to the throne. Emperor Manma (His Majesty Rice-in-a-Bowl), on an empty stomach, downed a single perfectly measured cup, and declared: "What an outrageous display by that wretched Mochi! Make haste and dispatch a punitive force—crush those Mochi-belly teetotalers into submission!" With that, he immediately bestowed cups of the "three quick cups upon arrival" (*kaketsuke-sanbai*).
