現代語訳
その鮎の魚はそれから川上に上り、だんだんと成長して大きな南の海に出た。今その大きさはおよそ三十丈余りになり、大海を泳ぎ回っていた時、菱垣廻船の大船が追い風に任せて走ってきたが、その鮎の口へ走り込んでしまったということである。

英語訳
That ayu fish then swam upstream, gradually growing larger until it reached the great southern sea. Now its size had become approximately thirty jō or more, and while it was swimming about in the great ocean, a large higaki cargo ship came running with the favorable wind, but ended up running right into the mouth of that ayu fish.
