十二支を二回りする前後（二十四年前後）に流行する天行の疫邪によって体表に発症するものである。したがって天然痘は膿を持つが、麻疹は膿を持たない。中国には古くからあったであろうが、唐・宋の時代より書物に見えるようになった。明の人は痧麻（しゃま）と言い、清の人は痧子（しゃし）と言う。熱毒の強い病気なので痧病と混同して言うと見える。天然痘は日本で初めて流行した年月が国史に確かに現れているが、麻疹は昔のことは分からない。天の疫病に連れて発症するものなので、昔の人も必ず患ったであろうと思うが、確証はない。国史に疫邪が行われることを記した中に、麻疹もあるであろう。さて、だいたい二十三、四、五年目に天下一面に流行する。元禄庚未年【庚未は存在しない】、宝永五戊子年、享保十五庚戌年、宝暦三癸酉年、安永四・五未申年に流行した。宝永と宝暦の麻疹は非常に重く死亡する者が多く、安永の麻疹は軽かった。世俗の諺にも「天然痘は美貌を決め、麻疹は命を決める」と言う。中国の医学書にも天然痘と同じく論じた書があるので、この病気の治療は大切なことである。古くより二十三、四、五年目に流行すると言うが、その流行には一度は重く、一度は軽く

While the year and month when smallpox first spread in Japan are clearly recorded in national history, the ancient occurrences of measles are unknown. Since it develops in conjunction with heavenly epidemics, people of old times must have also suffered from it, but there is no clear evidence. Among the records in national history that describe the occurrence of epidemic pathogens, there should also be measles.
