流行し、重いものも軽いものも続くことも、その年の気候によってあるであろう。明の人である孫文胤が「六腑より発する熱」と言うのは間違いである。清の張路玉は「手足の太陰・陽明経の蘊熱が麻疹になる」と言うが、そうではない。蘊熱が二経にあるなら、諸経にもみな蘊熱があって、諸経の蘊熱も共に発するはずである。また麻疹は邪熱であるとも言うが、邪熱ならば一生涯に一度に限らず、何度でも患うはずである。天然痘と同じく一生に一度するのは、天の疫病によって一種の胎毒が体表に発現するのを麻疹と知るべきである。疫邪によって蕁麻疹が出るのを俗に「三日はしか」と言う。これは軽いもので、小児や虚弱な年配の人が患うことがある。これと麻疹を同一のものと心得ているとみえる。麻疹は大病である。和漢の書物にもしっかりとした書物もなく、二十四、五年目に流行する病気なので、医師も度々手にかけないため、この病気の治療に心を用いない。治療するにも、麻疹が流行し始めると急に諸書の巻末にある雑然とした杜撰な考えや『麻疹精要』を読んで治療法を

天然痘・麻疹を二度患うのは、前後のうち、痘は水痘、麻疹は蕁麻疹である。麻疹・天然痘の流行の時に、水痘・蕁麻疹が必ず交じって流行するものである。

The Qing physician Zhang Luyu says that "accumulated heat in the hand and foot taiyin and yangming meridians becomes measles," but this is not so. If accumulated heat exists in two meridians, then all meridians would have accumulated heat, and the accumulated heat in all meridians should manifest together. It is also said that measles is pathogenic heat, but if it were pathogenic heat, one would not be limited to suffering from it once in a lifetime but would suffer from it many times. Like smallpox, the fact that it occurs once in a lifetime means we should understand that measles is the surface manifestation of a type of fetal toxin due to heavenly epidemics. What is commonly called "three-day measles" is urticaria caused by epidemic pathogens. This is a mild condition that small children and weak elderly people sometimes suffer from. When one suffers from smallpox and measles twice, the former is chickenpox and the latter is urticaria. When measles and smallpox epidemics occur, chickenpox and urticaria necessarily spread intermixed with them.
