現代語訳

ところである。私の日記による紀行文は既に終わった。ああ、世の中の歓楽に耽る者よ、私のこの千変万化する苦悩と歓楽の記録を常に胸中に並べ置けば、おそらくは怠惰で放縦な心を戒め、臆病で卑しい感情を奮い起こすのに十分であろう。ただ漫然として一場の戯曲として見做すならば、賢者の書であっても少しも益するところはないだろう。ただ読む者は、私の過去の足跡のことを想像し、各々その身を省み、その行いを修めることが肝要である。それだけのことである。

place. My diary-based travel account has now come to an end. Ah, you who indulge in worldly pleasures! If you would constantly array in your hearts this record of my myriad transformations of suffering and joy, it would surely suffice to spur on lazy and dissolute minds and rouse cowardly and base sentiments. If one merely regards it carelessly as a theatrical performance, then even the writings of sages would be of no benefit whatsoever. The reader should simply imagine the events of my past journeys, examine themselves, and endeavor to cultivate their conduct. That is all.
