オランダ語翻訳者による序文
イギリス国のロビンソン・クルーソーは、世界各地を巡る志があり、大洋を航海していたところ嵐に遭遇し、小舟に乗って命からがら逃れた。その航海中に再び海賊に捕らえられ、漁師に売られてしまった。その時、漁船に乗って他国に逃げようとしたが、追手を心配していたところ、偶然ポルトガルの商船に助けられ、サトウキビを栽培して大いに富を築いた。それでもなお海難に懲りることなく、大きな船を造って再び航海に出たが、またしても嵐と大波に遭って船を破損し、かろうじて身一つで無人島に漂着した。この島で生活の手段を様々に工夫し、二十八年を過ごした後、偶然本国の船を得て帰国することができた。その間の出来事を記録したものをオランダ語に翻訳して、人々にその事跡を知らしめるものである。そもそもこの事跡を読む者は皆、驚嘆に堪えないであろう。

Preface by the Dutch Translator
Robinson Crusoe of England had ambitions to travel the four corners of the world. While sailing the great ocean, he encountered a hurricane and barely escaped with his life in a small boat. During his sea journey, he was again captured by pirates and sold to fishermen. At that time, while attempting to flee to another country by fishing boat and worrying about his pursuers, he was unexpectedly rescued by a Portuguese merchant ship. He then cultivated sugar cane and became very wealthy. Still not deterred by maritime disasters, he built a large ship and set sail again, but once more encountered storms and great waves that wrecked his vessel. He barely managed to drift ashore on a deserted island with nothing but his life. On this island, he devised various means of survival and spent twenty-eight years there before fortuitously finding a ship from his homeland and returning home. This work, which records the events of that period, has been translated into Dutch to make known these deeds to the people. Indeed, all who read of these deeds cannot help but be filled with wonder and admiration.
