ノ住スヘキ域ナリ青草果実モ処々ニ生長セリ其状
人造ノ田畝ノ如シ且花絶ヘズ四時盛ナルコト春日ノ

さらに深く進んでいくと鬱蒼とした森があり、様々な果実が豊富に実っているのを見る。また瓜が生えて地面に蔓を延ばしている。また熟した葡萄もある。私はこれらを見て大いに驚く。しかしながらまだ心配を解くには十分ではない。あの果実類は食料には適さないのだ。私はかつて聞いたことがある、「バルバリア」国で売られる「ヨーロッパ」の「奴隷」は、これらの生物を食べ過ぎて発熱し、あるいは下痢をして死ぬ者がいると。私もまた「ヨーロッパ」において、これらの物を食べて毒に当たらない方法があることを知っている。空中に吊るし、日に乾かして食べれば害をなすことはない。
この野の景色が良いので、夜になっても帰りたくない。最初に島に漂着した時のように樹上に横たわり、明日またその奥を究めようと谷に従って行くこと四里ほど、まっすぐ北に折れて一つの丘の下で休息し、そこから遂に広野に出る。

この野は形が西に長く、内に小さな流れがある。その水は清らかで新鮮であり、その源はこの丘からである。丘に沿って流れ東に向かって注いでいる。初めてこの島の地形を把握することができた。これは誠に人の住むべき土地である。青草や果実も所々に生長している。その様子は人が造った田畑のようである。そして花が絶えることなく、四季を通じて春の日のように盛んである。
谷を回ってさらに探索すると、香橙や仏手柑などの類が非常に多い。仏手柑は皮が青いものを食べれば美味で腹を害することがない。私は常にその液に水を加えて服用する。清涼で特に良い。およそ全島に生えるものを思いのままに取っても禁じる者はいない。実にこの島の王と言ってもよいだろう。
食料に適する物を採って帰り、雨季の備えとする。そこで仏手柑と葡萄を（採取した）。

Going deeper, there is a dense forest where I see various fruits growing abundantly. Also, melons grow with vines spreading on the ground. There are also ripe grapes. I am greatly surprised to see these. However, this is still not enough to dispel my worries. Those fruits are not suitable as food. I have heard that European "slaves" sold in "Barbary" countries sometimes develop fever or die from diarrhea after overeating these plants. I also know from Europe that there is a way to eat these things without being poisoned. If you hang them in the air, dry them in the sun, and then eat them, they cause no harm.
The scenery of this field is so beautiful that I do not wish to return even when night falls. Like when I first drifted to this island, I lie down on a tree, and tomorrow I will explore its depths again. Following the valley for about four ri, turning straight north, I rest under a hill, and from there finally emerge into open fields.

This field extends long to the west, with a small stream inside. The water is clear and fresh, its source being from this hill. It flows along the hill and empties toward the east. For the first time, I was able to grasp the topography of this island. This is truly a land where people should live. Green grass and fruits also grow in various places. Their appearance is like cultivated fields made by humans. And flowers never cease, flourishing through all four seasons like spring days.
Going around the valley and exploring further, there are very many types of citrus fruits and Buddha's hand citrons. If you eat Buddha's hand citrons when their skin is green, they taste good and do not harm the stomach. I always add water to their juice and drink it. It is refreshing and particularly fine. Though I freely take whatever grows on the entire island, there is no one to forbid it. I could truly be called the king of this island.
I gather things suitable for food and return, preparing for the rainy season. Therefore, I collected Buddha's hand citrons and grapes.
