物を見ない。そこで浜を歩き回ってこれを探すと、ただこの場所のみで、他に人が来た形跡がない。これは見間違いかと再びその跡を確かめると、確実な足跡である。どうして人がこの場所に来たのか、全く理解することができない。不思議に思いながら家に帰る道で、一歩ごとに必ず振り返る。また近くの木々の間、木の根元、丘陵などに目を配って行く。この様子は言葉では表現できない。走って帰り、急いで梯子に登って家に入る。○あの巌の洞穴の入り口から地下室に入ることは、虜囚に追われる狐狸のようである。あの奇跡はすでに遠いことであるが、なお恐れて一晩中眠らない。思うに、山の神の人形のようなものであろうか。また考えるに、これは鬼であろうか。しかしながら私を威嚇する術がないので、このような回りくどい計略で私を威嚇するのか。これは山の神であろうか。
