小倉の宮の住せ給ひける所といふ谷に
とまりて。有明の月おもしろき。あけほの
に。色々の花を折て佛に奉らんとすと
て。月残り露むすはんあした。籬の花を
折て。佛界に供せんとかたられけるを。今
更おもひ出て
むかし思ふまかきの花を露なから
手折ていまも手向つるかな

延政門院の一条も。時なくなりて。あやしき
ところに立いりたるよし申をこせて
おもひやれかゝるふせやに住居して
むかしをしのふ袖のなみたを

しのふらんむかしにかはる世の中は
なれぬふせやの住居のみかは
何となく此ころは世間(ヨノナカ)さはかしくなりて。

小倉の宮がお住まいになっていたという谷に宿を取り、有明の月が趣深い夜明けに、色々の花を折って仏に奉ろうとして——月がまだ残り、露が結ぶ朝、籬の花を折って仏界に供えようと語られていたことを、今更ながら思い出して——
昔思ふ まがきの花を 露ながら
手折りて今も 手向けつるかな

延政門院の一条も、時勢が移り変わって、粗末な所に立ち入っておられるとのことを申し知らせてきたので——
思いやれ かかる伏屋に 住居して
昔を忍ぶ 袖の涙を
返し——
忍ぶらん 昔に変はる 世の中は
慣れぬ伏屋の 住居のみかは
何となくこの頃は、世間が騒がしくなって——

Having lodged in a valley said to be the place where the Ogura no Miya had once resided, on a dawn when the lingering moon was beautiful — intending to gather various flowers to offer to the Buddha — he recalled how, on a morning when the moon still remained and dew gathered, someone had spoken of plucking flowers from the hedge to offer them to the Buddha-realm. Remembering this now afresh:
*Mukashi omou / magaki no hana wo / tsuyu nagara / taoriteimamo / tamuke tsuru kana*
(Thinking of the past, I pluck the flowers of the hedge — dew and all — and offer them up, just as was done then.)

Word came that Ichijō of the Enchōmon'in, too, had fallen on hard times and had come to dwell in some wretched place. In reply to this message:
*Omoiyare / kakaru fuseya ni / sumai shite / mukashi wo shinobu / sode no namida wo*
(Imagine it — living in such a humble hut, with sleeves wet with tears longing for the past.)
Response:
*Shinoburam / mukashi ni kawaru / yo no naka wa / narenu fuseya no / sumai nomi ka wa*
(In a world so changed from the past one longs for, is it only the unaccustomed dwelling of a humble hut that has altered?)
