成忠か許より告まいらす。十五日に
兼好法師この世をさりぬ。六十九歳
にてありけめ。此庵に殘すものは。古筆
の法華經。自筆の老子經。す磨#1明石
の二巻。頓阿か書たるまほろしの巻。
神代巻二𠕋。反古書捨二つゝみ。黒き
麻の衣二。其外は夜の衾と。餉の器は
かりなりと申す。其比めしつかひし。

命松丸といふ童。日を經て殿下へまい
りて申す。正月二十八日兼好の讀る哥
ありとたに人にしられぬ身の程や
みそかにちかきあけほのゝ月
内にも。院中。后の宮まても。きこし
めしつたへさせ玉ひては。みなあは
れとおほしけるとや。やかて米五
十石。料足二千疋たまひて。遍照寺

成忠のもとより（二条殿下に）お知らせ申し上げる。十五日に兼好法師はこの世を去られた。六十九歳であったろう。この庵に残されたものは、古筆の法華経、自筆の老子経、須磨・明石の二巻、頓阿が書いた「幻の巻」、神代巻二冊、反故・書き捨て二包み、黒い麻の衣二着、その他は夜の衾と食器ばかりであったと申す。その頃召し使っていた

命松丸という童が、日を経て殿下のもとへ参りて申す。正月二十八日に兼好が詠んだ歌（は）、

Word was sent (to His Excellency Lord Yoshimoto) from Nariyoshi's dwelling: on the fifteenth day, the Monk Kenkō departed this world. He must have been sixty-nine years of age. What remained in his hermitage were: a copy of the Lotus Sutra in an old hand, a copy of the Laozi in his own hand, two scrolls on Suma and Akashi, the "Chapter of Visions" written by Ton'a, two volumes of the Age of the Gods, two bundles of waste paper and discarded writings, two black hemp robes, and beyond these, only a night coverlet and vessels for his meals — so it was reported. a young attendant called Inochi Matsumaru, came before His Excellency some days later and reported (the following). On the twenty-eighth day of the first month, the poem that Kenkō had composed (was):
*Arito dani / hito ni mo shiraren / mi no hodo ya /*
*misoka ni chikaki / akebono no tsuki*
(That he existed at all was scarce known to others — such was his station in the world; like the moon near the last day of the month, faintly glowing at dawn.)
This poem was conveyed and came to be heard at the Imperial Palace, the Retired Emperor's court, and even as far as the consort's chambers, and all who heard it were moved with deep sorrow, it is said. Presently, fifty *koku* of rice and two thousand *hiki* of coin were bestowed, and at Henshōji Temple —
