……（この）思いを打ち明けるとしても、そもそも誰を手がかりに言伝てできようか。沈み込むような、黒い夜の床（とこ）、白妙の枕（まくら）——その枕でもなければ、この思いを知るすべもないと、嘆き沈んでいたところ、「何か物思いをしているのか」と尋ねる人があった。自分の恋心を秘めていたつもりでも、心一つには収まりきれなくなっていたのであろうか。どうせ表に出てしまいそうな乱れた心持ちのままに、その面影の主のことを話し出してみると、その人がふと心当たりあるように、「それは伊賀の……」
