【右丁】
身上の良い人は土蔵を建てて財宝を入れておけば、たとえ家が焼けても財宝や道具には支障がないだろうと日頃は頼みに思っていたが、洛中の蔵はほとんどが崩れ倒れ、その他は戸口が傾き、軒が歪み、壁が割れ離れ、土が崩れ落ちたので、火事があっても収納できる状況ではなくなった。そこで資財や雑具を人家から離れた寺々や神社に運んで預ける有様は、東西南北で混雑が激しく、預ける縁故のない者は肩に担い背中に背負って小屋掛けの中に運び入れて積み置いたのも夥しい数であった。乱雑な洛中の騒動は地震と相まって並々ならぬ騒がしさである。

People of good means had built storehouses to keep their treasures, thinking they could rely on the fact that even if their houses burned down, their treasures and tools would be safe from harm. However, most of the storehouses in the capital had collapsed and fallen down, while others had doorways tilted, eaves warped, walls cracked and separated, and earth crumbled and fallen, making it impossible to store anything even if there were fires. The sight of people carrying their assets and household goods to temples and shrines away from residential areas was one of severe congestion in all directions—east, west, south, and north. Those without connections to entrust their belongings to carried them on their shoulders and backs, transporting them into makeshift shelters and piling them up in vast quantities. The chaotic commotion throughout the capital, combined with the earthquakes, created an extraordinary level of tumult.
