肝を消し立て騒ぎ乱れ合い、踏み倒し押し合って、幼い子どもたちは声々に泣き叫んだ。しばらくして地震が静まった。御湯を奉納した願人をはじめ、また神前に立ち返って見ると、かの巫女殿は人より先に逃げて、拝殿の傍らにある松の木の上によじ登り、顔色を失っている様子で、恐れ慌てた体であったが、地震が静まったので、また降りてきて、禰宜どもを招き、太鼓を打たせ笛を吹かせて、しばらく湯を浴びたが、神のお告げがあった。

Their spirits were crushed as they panicked and fell into disorder, trampling and pushing each other, while small children cried and screamed with various voices. After a while, the earthquake subsided. The petitioners who had offered the sacred hot water, among others, returned to stand before the shrine again. Looking up, they saw that the shrine maiden had fled before anyone else and climbed up into a pine tree beside the worship hall, having lost all color from her face. She appeared terrified and confused, but when the earthquake calmed, she climbed down again, summoned the shrine priests, had them beat drums and play flutes, and for a while underwent the hot water ritual. Then came a divine oracle.
