御たくせんなり用心をせずは罰（ばち）あたるべし御たくせんにしたがひていざや用心して神の心をいさめ【「いさめる(勇める・慰める)」＝力づける。慰め和らげる。】よと
て竹のはしら薦（こも）ぶきの小屋をかまへてうつり
すみけるありさま俄に乞食（こつじき）のあつまりたるに

西ノ京 紙屋（かみや）川のほとり橘地（きちぢ）の天皇に湯（ゆ）を
まいらせしかば御たくせんの事おはしましけり
いかに氏子（うぢこ）どもかくあはたゝしき中に湯（ゆ）をくれて
身のくるしみをやすむるのみならず心のすゞやかに
なりたるこそうれしけれさればこのほどの大
なゐに氏子どものきもをつぶすらんとやすき

むかしもかやうにゆりそめては久しくゆりたる
ためしありさりながら別条（べちでう）あるまじとはおもへ
どもそれもしらずと報せられし也 氏子どもよ
只用心せよ用心といふは別の事にはあらず軒（のき）
ぐち【「軒口」＝軒の先端。屋根の端。】は襲（をそひ）の石【屋根の上に置いて屋根板の押さえにする石】がおつるものぞや小家ならば築張（つゐはり）【「ついはり」と振り仮名があるので「突い張り」のことと思われる。「つい」は「つき」の変化した語。…ものをつっぱるために立てる柱や棒。つっかい。】
をせよ地が裂（さけ）さうならば戸板（といた）をしくべし戸障（としやう）

神託である。用心をしなければ罰が当たるであろう。神託に従って、さあ用心して神の心を慰めようと言って、竹の柱に薦葺きの小屋を構えて移り住んだ様子は、急に乞食が集まったのと違わず、見苦しいことである。
西ノ京の紙屋川のほとり、橘地の天皇に湯を差し上げたところ、神託のことがおありになった。

心持ちもなく大社の神々に尋ね申し上げたが、昔もこのように揺れ始めては長く揺れた例がある。しかしながら特別な異変はないだろうとは思うが、それもわからないと知らされたのである。氏子どもよ、ただ用心せよ。用心というのは別のことではない。軒先は屋根押さえの石が落ちるものだ。小さな家ならばつっかい棒をせよ。地面が裂けそうならば戸板を敷くべきだ。戸や障子を閉め切ってしまっては片付きが悪くて開かないものだ。夜も昼も開け放しにせよ。幼い子どもは怯えて癇の虫が起こるものだ。虫下しの薬を飲ませて、なだめ慰めよ。家が崩れそうならば早く逃げ出せ。

Nevertheless, while I think there should be no special calamities, I was told that even this is uncertain. Parishioners! Simply take precautions. Taking precautions means nothing special. From the eaves, the stones that hold down the roof tiles will fall. For small houses, use supporting props. If the ground seems likely to crack, lay down door boards. If you shut the doors and sliding screens tightly, they will warp and not open properly. Keep them open day and night. Young children will be frightened and suffer convulsions. Give them medicine for intestinal worms and soothe and comfort them. If houses seem about to collapse, flee quickly.
