ながらをかしく日くれかたに家にかへりしかば妻の
女房大に腹（はら）をたて日ごろそなたの思ひ給ひける
しるしには我をば打すてゝ癩尼（かつたいあま）が手をひきて

ではなくて、たいして関係のない熊野比丘尼が地震を恐れて逃げ込んできたのを、やむを得ず手を引いて七条川原まで逃げてきてしまった。何とも情けないことだ。きっと人の笑い種になるだろう」と思い続けて、我ながらおかしく思った。日暮れ頃に家に帰ると、妻の女房が大いに腹を立てて「日頃そなたが思っていらっしゃったしるしには、私を打ち捨てて癩病の尼の手を引いて逃げ出しなさるとは腹立たしい。そのような焼け尼と来世まで添いなさい。私には離縁状を渡して、入り婿なのですから出て行きなさい」と言って機嫌を損ねたので、男が言うには「人違いというのは例のないことだ。川の瞽女かと思って取り

と言えば、女房はいよいよ腹を立てて「何の歌でしょうか。聞きたくもありません。今はこれまでです。その尼のところへ行きなさい」と言って突き出す。異様な地震の唸りに取り乱す人もいない。男は力なく出るといって門柱に書き付けた。
出て行けば心軽しと言うだろう
