此 語（ご）は温公（おんかう）の御 語（ことば）にて
金（こがね）をおほく積（つみ）かさねて
子孫（しそん）にのこしあたふる
とも子孫（しそん）よく其 富（とみ）を
守（まも）りたもつことあたはぬ

後守（のちまも）るにうとくおの
づから麁略（そりやく）に至（いた）る
ものに候へは父母（ふぼ）たる
人は此道理（このどうり）を能々（よく〳〵）
心得（こゝろえ）幼稚（ようち）の比（ころ）より
守（まも）りならはせ可申候事

現代語訳

この言葉は温公（司馬光）のお言葉で、
黄金をたくさん積み重ねて
子孫に残し与えた
としても、子孫がよくその富を
守り保つことはできない。

後に守ることに疎くなり、おのず
から粗略になってしまう
ものであるから、父母たる
人はこの道理をよくよく
心得て、幼い頃より
守り慣らせ申すべきことである。

descendants, the descendants cannot well
preserve and maintain that wealth.

should thoroughly understand
this principle and have children
observe and practice it from early childhood.
