【右丁】
の行方をお尋ねになる由をお話しすれば、「それは私の兄にて、宿におりますが、糊を舐めすぎた上に舌を切られて、何とも辛いことでございます。早々、小野と申す口中医者の薬を、ただいま買いに参る道でございます。ご案内いたしましょう」と共に連れて行きました。行くほどもなく雀の住処に到着し、「ここはいったい何という【綴じ代のため読めず】

て何という所でしょうか」と問えば、「隠れ里という所でございます」とて、奥へ案内すると、家内の者が出迎えて、様々にもてなしました。糊を舐めた雀も薬にて舌も元の通りになったので、爺と親子をご馳走することになりました。
「これはこれは、たいそうなご馳走で」
「まことに粗末なもてなしでございます」

When they explained that they were searching for [the sparrow's] whereabouts, [the sparrow replied], "That is my elder brother, who is staying at home, but having licked too much starch and then having his tongue cut, he is in great distress. I am just now on my way to buy medicine from a mouth doctor called Ono. I shall guide you there," and led them along. Before long they arrived at the sparrows' dwelling, and [asked] "What is this place called..."【unreadable due to binding margin】

"What is this place called?" they asked, and [the sparrow] replied, "This is called the Hidden Village," and led them inside, where the household members came out to greet them and entertained them in various ways. The sparrow that had licked the starch also had its tongue restored to its original condition with medicine, so they decided to feast the old man and his child.
"My, my, what a splendid feast!"
"This is truly but humble hospitality."
