（職人たちの遊軍が）追いかけて駆けつけたものの、すでに鎮まった後であったので、家・蔵・堂・社の軍兵たちの手傷・破損を労わり、介抱・修復を施した。これによって市中の人々は一様に心を落ち着け始め、我に返ったような思いがし、皆が太平を唱えるようになった。
しかしながら、このような物騒な折のことゆえ、鯰や火事の残党どもが、もしあちこちに隠れ潜んで不意に起こり出れば一大事と、七日の間、焼け原に野陣を張り、篝火を焚いて寒夜をしのぎ、火の元・身の回りを厳重に構えた。日数を経ても難事がなければ、人々は野陣を引き払い、それぞれの城郭（家）に引き籠もった。すると鹿島・愛宕の両神も末社の神々を引き連れて、鎮座の社へご帰陣あそばされ、四海の波も穏やかに、万代変わらず千秋楽、揺るがぬ

The reserve troops of craftsmen came rushing to the scene, but by then all had already been subdued. So they tended to the wounds and damage suffered by the soldier-defenders of homes, storehouses, halls, and shrines, nursing them back to health and making repairs. As a result, the people of the city began, one and all, to settle their hearts and came to their senses once more, and everyone began to speak of peace and prosperity.
Nevertheless, as these were still unsettled times, people feared that stragglers from the catfish and fire forces might be hiding here and there, ready to strike without warning—which would be a great catastrophe. So for seven days they pitched field camps on the burnt-out grounds, lit bonfires to endure the cold nights, and kept strict watch over fire hazards and their own safety. When days passed without further calamity, the people struck their field camps and withdrew into their own castles (homes). Thereupon the two deities of Kashima and Atago, accompanied by the gods of their subsidiary shrines, returned in triumph to their enshrined abodes. The waves of the four seas grew calm once more, and for ten thousand generations unchanging, the final celebratory act—an earth at peace, unshaken.
