現代語訳
一 書き載せたのも、また私が伝え聞いて見覚えたことで
役に立つべきことを、あれこれ書き綴り、少しでも病気の
家のためになればと思う。これが私の本意のあるところである。
一 この書には薬方と理論を載せない。これは医
者の職分であり、医者として行うことは古今百家の
書を見てこれを病気に照らして考え、薬を用いる。また元
より心を砕き、鍛錬すべきことであって、この書
は専門の識者のためにするものではない。故に
薬方と理論の部分を載せず、文も至って卑
俗にして笑うべき事ばかり多いであろう。
一 ああ、病気の変化は本当に限りなくて、
治療の法もまた変化に応じて窮まりないことと言う

1. From what I have observed over time, many people die from smallpox not because it is severe, but because of mistakes in nursing care. Generally, eight or nine out of ten cases are not malignant or fatal symptoms, but rather mild and favorable symptoms. The initial treatment methods are inappropriate, nursing care is mishandled, and later when options become limited, death eventually results. The root cause lies in truly minor errors, and if the methods of care were correct, these would not be cases destined for death.
