おもひてしよきやうてんへ参りてつかうまつるへき
なりこれそわかれ成けれはこしかたゆくすへの
こともかたりてはなきそてもしほるはかりなりけ

なきける中将なみたのそこにの給ふやうみかと
より給はり候ひしこちくのふえわか身こそいて
てゆくとも子といふもの有ならはなとか此ふえ
ゆつりさらんつたふへき人もなけれはもとの御た
なにこそおかんすらめあはれこの世になこりもな
きわか身かなとてなき給ふつく〳〵おもひつゝ

なり参らせん」と申せば、「汝もわれに添い侍ると思いて、尚況天へ参りて仕えまつるべきなり。これぞ別れなりければ、昔のことや将来のことも語りて、泣く袖も塩に濡れるばかりなりけり。弟もあまりの悲しさに声を立てて泣きける。中将は涙の底におっしゃるよう、「帝より賜り候いし竹の笛、わが身こそ出でて行くとも、子というものあるならば、などかこの笛を譲り渡さん。伝うべき人もなければ、元の御棚にこそ置かんずらめ。あはれ、この世に名残もなきわが身かな」とて泣き給う。つくづく思いつつ
