うらにてしゝうにゆきあひけり中将なみたもせ
きあへ給はすなをしのそてをかほにあてゝさめ〳〵
となき給へは何となくあさましういかなる事な
るらんとむねうちさはきてかなしきに中将ふと
ころにうすやうにつゝみたる物をとりいたししゝう
にそとらせけるなみたのひまにおほせありけるはち
きりはくちせぬことなれはみ山のおくへまかりいり
ことのふしきのありさまはをといくはしく申すへ
し物のまよはかしの身となりたぐひなきわかれ
のせめてしのひかたけれはうき世をいまはすては
て侍るへししんしやうこそかくうすくともこしやう

裏にて侍従に行き合った。中将は涙も堰き合えず、直衣の袖を顔に当てて、さめざめと泣かれるので、何となく浅ましく、いかなることであろうかと胸打ち騒いで悲しいところに、中将は懐中の薄様に包んだ物を取り出し、侍従にそれを渡された。涙の間におっしゃったことには「契りは朽ちせぬことなれば、深山の奥へ参り入り、事の不思議のありさまは、詳しく申すべし。物の迷いがちの身となり、類なき別れの責めて忍び難ければ、憂き世を今は捨て去り侍るべし。身心こそかく薄くとも、心魂
