ひたるかたちなり身に物をそかきたるおとこの
身には大将のひめきみの事をそかきたり女御
の身にはとうの中将の事をそかきたる物なり
見るに身のけよたちおそろしくそおほゆる
これらのしわさにてとしころふるさとのことはわ
すれけり心うきかなやとおもひなみたこほれふ
るさとの人そこひしき此かたしろを見るにお
そろしとて心にうちすて給ふ六ゐのしん人に
みせんとてたとうかみにつゝみて人にもたせた
りその夜十らくかうのありつるにこもりゐさせ
給ひて出もやり給はす中将はにはかに心に物

戯れている様子である。身に物を書き付けてあり、男の身には大将の姫君のことを書いてある。女御の身には頭の中将のことを書いてある物である。見ると身の毛もよだって恐ろしく思われる。これらの呪術のために、長年故郷のことは忘れていた。心憂いことだなあと思い、涙がこぼれて故郷の人が恋しい。この人形を見ると恐ろしいといって、心の中で捨ててしまいなさる。六位の侍は人に見せようとして畳紙に包んで人に持たせた。その夜十楽香の催しがあったが、部屋に籠もっていらっしゃって出てもいらっしゃらない。中将は急に心に物思いが

They are depicted in an intimate pose. Things are written on their bodies - on the male figure are written things about the General's daughter, and on the female figure are written things about the Tō no Chūjō. Looking at it, his hair stands on end and he feels terrified. Due to these sorcerous workings, he had forgotten about his homeland for many years. Thinking how distressing this was, tears spilled over and he longed for the people of his homeland. Finding this figure frightening, he mentally discarded it. The sixth-rank attendant, intending to show it to others, wrapped it in folded paper and had someone carry it. That night there was a jūrakukō incense ceremony, but he remained secluded in his room and would not come out. The Chūjō suddenly felt troubled in his heart...
