にて悪種（あくたね）にてさへ相応（さうおう）の作（さく）をすれは。況（いわん）や上種（じやうたね）を求（もと）めて飼（か）はゝ一／段（たん）
格別（かくべつ）の上作（じやうさく）すべきなり。乍然（しかしながら）種子（たね）は甚（はなはた）見分（みわけ）かたきものにて口伝（くでん）多（おほ）し。
四／度（ど）の居起（ゐおき）ぶり桑責（くわせめ）桑（くわ）少（すこ）しの間（あひだ）にも大（おほい）なる損益（そんゑき）あるべき事也。
蚕種（こたね）毒忌（どくみ）同／貯（たくはへ）様（やう）の事
種子（たね）求（もと）めて後（のち）は紙袋（かみふくろ）に入（い）れ気（き）の籠（こも）らぬやうにして。夏（なつ）より翌年（よくねん）
の春（はる）まで冷（すゞ）しき所（ところ）へ釣置（つりおく）へし。種（たね）に第一（たいゝち）油気（あふらけ）塩気（しほけ）多葉粉（たはこ）の類（るひ）
鉄（てつ）のるい茶（ちや）麻（あさ）の子（み）樟脳（しやうのう）大／毒（どく）なり又（また）壁（かべ）にかけ置（おく）へからす或（あるひ）は

種（たね）を寒（かん）水に漬（つけ）るは第一（だいゝち）毒気（どくき）をぬくため也。また一／説（せつ）に性（しやう）弱（よは）き

によって悪い種でさえ相応の成果を上げるのであれば、ましてや上質な種を求めて飼育すれば一段と格別の上作となるはずである。しかしながら種子は非常に見分けが困難なもので、口伝が多い。
四度の脱皮の様子、桑の与え方、桑が少しの間でも大きな損益があることである。
蚕種の毒となるものを避け、貯蔵する方法について
種子を求めた後は紙袋に入れて気がこもらないようにし、夏から翌年の春まで涼しい所に吊るしておくべきである。種に第一に油気、塩気、煙草の類、鉄の類、茶、麻の実、樟脳は大毒である。また壁にかけ置いてはならず、あるいは蚊帳や帷子に包むことは大いに悪い。行燈の上に吊るした種は蚕が出ないと言われている。総じて臭いの悪いものに入れてはならず、日の当たる所や焚火の近所に置くことは悪い。すべて悪い匂いを忌む。
種子を寒水に漬けることについて
種を寒水に漬けるのは第一に毒気を抜くためである。また一説には性質の弱い卵は生まれず、性質の強いもののみが出るため蚕の性質が強くなるとも言う。また来年

under such conditions even poor seeds can achieve reasonable results, so much more should one expect exceptionally superior results by obtaining good seeds for breeding. However, seeds are extremely difficult to distinguish and there are many oral traditions about this.
The manner of the four molting periods, feeding mulberry leaves, even a short shortage of mulberry can cause great profit or loss.
On avoiding toxins harmful to silkworm eggs and storage methods
After obtaining seeds, place them in paper bags ensuring air circulation, and hang them in cool places from summer until the following spring. The greatest poisons to seeds are oil, salt, tobacco and similar substances, iron objects, tea, hemp seeds, and camphor. Also, they should not be hung on walls, and wrapping them in mosquito nets or summer clothing is very bad. It is said that seeds hung above lanterns will not hatch silkworms. Generally, they should not be placed near anything with bad odor, in sunny places, or near fires. All bad smells should be avoided.
On soaking seeds in cold water
Soaking seeds in cold water is primarily to remove toxic vapors. Another theory states that weak eggs will not hatch and only strong ones will emerge, thus making the silkworms' constitution stronger. Also, next year

Some regions do not practice soaking. When soaking in water, use a large tub filled with clean water.
