如月の初つ頃まて酉戌の方ゟ辰巳の方に向ひ旗
雲【細長い旗のようになびく雲】の如き氣を発すといへとも日輪の光に押へられて
其形をわかたす見る人も又稀なりきさらき
始め二日の暮頃よりして其氣を發す故に
諸人是を見て奇異の思ひをなす日々刻限
少し宛【ずつ】遅く地より一覧する所の其幅凡六尺其丈
極りなくして辰巳に向ひ行事【行く事】数十里行先
明かならす次第に薄くなりて弥生十三夜ころに
至りて自然と其形を失ふ其あり様圖の如し

類いが灰となったことは数多くあるだろう。哀れむべし、
嘆くべし。なお尋ねて四五の巻に詳しく
記すであろう。

左に出す図は、去る天保十四年辛卯（1843年）正月九日より
二月の初め頃まで、西北の方から東南の方に向かい、旗
雲のような気を発するといっても、日輪の光に押さえられて
その形を判別できず、見る人もまた稀であった。二月の
始め二日の夕暮れ頃からその気を発するので、
諸人これを見て奇異の思いをなす。日々刻限が
少しずつ遅くなり、地上から一覧する所のその幅はおよそ六尺、その丈は
極まりなくして東南に向かい行くこと数十里、行く先は
明らかでない。次第に薄くなって三月十三夜頃に
至って自然とその形を失う。そのありさまは図の通りである。

The diagram shown on the left depicts a phenomenon from the past, specifically from the 9th day of the first month of Tenpō 14 (1843, Year of the Water Rabbit) until around the beginning of the second month. A vapor like flag clouds was emitted from the northwest direction toward the southeast, but being suppressed by the light of the sun, its form could not be clearly distinguished, and those who saw it were also rare. From around the evening of the 2nd day of the second month, it began to emit this vapor, so all people who saw it felt it was strange and mysterious. Day by day, the time gradually became later. When viewed from the ground, its width was approximately six feet, its length was unlimited, extending southeast for several dozen ri, with its destination unclear. It gradually became thinner and naturally lost its form around the 13th night of the third month. Its appearance was as shown in the diagram.
