爰に不思議とするは此信濃國の所謂山國なる事
遠く境を隔【へだて】る人なりとも是をしらさるはなし
されは大地震の大災はありとも山國にして
洪水の難の斯大變なりとは惑ひうたかひのある
も理なり今おもふ時は犀川筋に連なる所の
村々民百姓にありとも年経て後子々孫々の
世に至りなは昔し大地震發し此大河洪水
し其時に此邊りまて満水流失の難ありし
とかや我々祖父母長命にしてその患をしられ
たりなとゝいひ傳ふかのみにて尚年を累【かさね】し後に

至りては昔の人の言なといゝなるへし譬ひいかなる
大変なりとも幾数十丈の水の嵩りてや高き
此處において水災の患あるへしや疑はしき事に
そありけるなと怪みいい言傳ふへし今丁
未三月は四日の夜亥の刻陰陽昇降の變
化をもつて即時に此大河をとめて一滴の水
を漏らさすして四月十三日午の刻を過共日を
積る事既に二十日といへとも眼たゝく【まばたきをする】間も湛る【たたえる】に
ひまなし大河を爰に止むる事幾許そその
無量なる事後世猶おそる【「ろ」に見えるが「る」とあるところ】へし既に

ここで不思議に思われることは、この信濃国がいわゆる山国であることである。
遠く国境を隔てた人であっても、これを知らない者はいない。
そうであれば大地震の大災害があったとしても、山国であって
洪水の災難がこのような大変事になるとは、疑い戸惑うのも
道理である。今思うときには、犀川筋に連なる所の
村々の農民であっても、年を経た後、子々孫々の
世に至っては「昔大地震が発生し、この大河が洪水し、
その時にこの辺りまで満水で流失の災難があった
とかいう。我々の祖父母は長命でその災害を知っていた」
などと言い伝えるだけで、さらに年を重ねた後に

至っては「昔の人の言うことなど」と言うようになるだろう。たとえどのような
大変事であっても「幾数十丈もの水が嵩上がって、こんなに高い
この場所において水災の災害があるだろうか」と疑わしいことだ
などと怪しみ、そう言い伝えるだろう。今、丁未
三月四日の夜亥の刻、陰陽昇降の変
化によって、即座にこの大河を止めて一滴の水も
漏らさずにし、四月十三日午の刻を過ぎ、日を
重ねること既に二十日と言えども、瞬く間も湛えるの
に暇がない。大河をここに止めることの、どれほどその
無量なることか。後世もなお恐れるべきである。既に

"Could water rise dozens of jō high and cause flood disasters
in such a high place as this?" and will pass down such doubts in tradition. Now, on
the night of the 4th day of the 3rd month of Hinoto-Hitsuji year, at the hour of the Boar, through the transformations
of yin and yang rising and falling,
this great river was instantly stopped without letting a single drop of water
leak through. Even though the hour of the Horse on the 13th day of the 4th month has passed, and
the accumulated days already amount to twenty days, there is no respite
from the water pooling even for the blink of an eye. How immeasurable
is this stopping of the great river here!
