道義様江被 召出大坂両度之御陣ニも
御供いたし夏御陣之節ハ
正貞弾正様其頃ハ甚四郎様と申御部
屋住ニ而此度之御陣ニ御立被成無比
類御働茂在之候へ共深手を負御引
取被成兼候ニ付半右衛門駆着群る敵ニ

道義様に召し出され、大坂両度の御陣にも御供いたし、夏の陣の節は
正貞弾正様（その頃は甚四郎様と申していた）の御部屋住みであって、この度の御陣に御立ちになり、比類なき御働きもあったが、深手を負い御引き取りになりかねる状況になった。そこで半右衛門が駆けつけ群がる敵に立ち向かい、その身も槍で突かれたけれども、甚四郎様の御本陣まで扶助し奉った。さて大坂落城の後、武州へ御供いたしたところ、
高運院様より《透公様の御女で加藤明成の御内室である》御内々で
小原五郎右衛門方まで仰せ越しになったのは「式部様の夏の陣の節、御機嫌伺いとして奥附の者を遣わしたところ、その者が大坂での様子がよろしくないとのことで、御取り替えになりたいと思召しているうちに、彼の地で病死いたし、幸いなことであった。この度は大坂表の御供をいたした者の中で、甲斐甲斐しい者を御附け下さりたい」

He was summoned by Lord Dōgi and accompanied him to both Osaka campaigns. During the Summer Campaign,
Lord Masasada Danjō (who was called Lord Jinshirō at that time) was living as a retainer in his quarters, and when he went into battle this time, he showed incomparable military prowess, but suffered deep wounds and was unable to withdraw. So Hanemon rushed to him, engaged the swarming enemies, and though he himself was pierced by a spear, he assisted Lord Jinshirō back to the main camp. After the fall of Osaka, when he accompanied [his lord] to Musashi Province,
Lady Kōun-in (daughter of Lord Tōru and wife of Katō Akinari) secretly sent word
through Ohara Goroemon that "During the Summer Campaign, an attendant was sent to inquire after Lord Shikibu's well-being, but this person's conduct in Osaka was unsatisfactory, so while considering replacing him, he fortunately died of illness there. This time, from among those who accompanied the Osaka campaign, we would like to have a capable person assigned."
When Lord Dōgi heard of this matter,
