太乙は天都に近く、連山は海隅に至る。白雲は望を回らせば合し、
青靄は近きに入りて無し。分野は中峰変じ、陰晴は衆壑異なり。
人処に投じて宿せんと欲し、水を隔てて樵夫に問う。

終南山（しゅうなんざん）の別名を太乙山（たいおつざん）と言い、とりわけ高いから天帝の都に近いと言い、禁裏の向かいにあるゆえに天子の都に近いという説もある。山の麓に連なる山々は四方の海の果てまで根を張っている。第一句は山の高さを言い、第二句は広さを言う。山の峰に白雲の立つのを見て振り返って見ると、雲が一つに合った。遠くから見ると青くこんもりと一面に見えたが、近くに入ったら無くなった。山が広いため、峰の真ん中より二十八宿分野の星も左右に分かれて変じてある。それに曇った所も晴れた所もあり、多くの谷々がある。あまりに面白く駆け回ったので日が暮れるから、今夜はこの山中に人の在所・村があろう、これを頼んで一宿しようと思うため、谷を隔て向こうに樵夫が通るから、どこに人家があるかと問いかけた。

Taiyi is near the heavenly capital, the connected mountains reach to the sea's edge. When I turn my gaze around, white clouds converge; when I enter close, the blue mist disappears. The territorial divisions change at the central peak, shadow and sunshine differ among the many valleys. Wishing to find lodging at human dwellings, I call across the water to ask a woodcutter.

Mount Zhongnan's other name is Mount Taiyi, and because it is especially high, it is said to be near the heavenly emperor's capital. There is also a theory that because it faces the imperial palace, it is close to the Son of Heaven's capital. The mountains connected at the mountain's base spread their roots to the ends of the seas in all directions. The first line speaks of the mountain's height, the second line speaks of its breadth. Seeing white clouds rising from the mountain peaks and looking back, the clouds merged into one. From afar it appeared blue and densely covering the entire surface, but when I entered close, it disappeared. Because the mountain is vast, even the stars of the twenty-eight lunar mansions that divide the celestial sphere are split left and right and transformed at the center of the peak. There are both cloudy and clear places, with many valleys. Having wandered around finding it so fascinating that evening falls, I think that tonight there must be human settlements or villages in these mountains, and wishing to rely on these for lodging, I called out to a woodcutter passing on the other side of the valley, asking where there might be human dwellings.
