春、左省に宿泊す

花は掖垣に隠れて暮れ、啾々として棲鳥が過ぎ去る。星は万戸を臨んで動き、月は九霄に傍って多し。寝ずして金鑰を聴き、風に因って玉珂を想う。明朝封事あり、数々問う夜如何と。

左の省（役所）に詰めているが、もはや花も見えないようになり、掖垣（宮中の垣根）も暮れかかる。啾々として棲家へ帰る鳥も通り過ぎる。夜に入って星の光が戸口に臨んで動く（きらめく）。これも上（天子）の治め方が悪いと星が動くことを含んだ。月は九霄（九重の空）に近くて光が満ち渡るのを多しと言った。明朝は言上したいことがあるので寝てはならない。ゆえに寝ずして御門の鍵の鳴る音を聞いている。また風の吹いてくる音につけて、参内の役人が馬の玉珂（玉の飾り）を鳴らして来る響きを聞き耳を立てて思いやる。なぜなれば明朝は意見を書いて封事（上奏文）を上げねばならないので、終夜下役人へも数々問い尋ねる。「夜はもはやいかなる時刻であろうか」と。

Spending the Night at the Left Ministry in Spring

Flowers hide behind the palace walls as evening falls, chirping birds returning to roost pass by. Stars look down upon ten thousand households and move, the moon beside the nine heavens shines abundantly. Unable to sleep, I listen for the golden keys; with the wind I imagine the jade horse ornaments. Tomorrow morning I have a sealed memorial; repeatedly I ask what time of night it is.

While staying at the Left Ministry (government office), the flowers can no longer be seen and the palace walls grow dark with evening. Birds chirping as they return to their roosts pass by. As night falls, starlight shines down on the doorway and flickers. This also implies that when the ruler's governance is poor, the stars move restlessly. The moon is close to the nine layers of heaven, and its light fills everywhere abundantly. Since I have matters to report to the emperor tomorrow morning, I must not sleep. Therefore I stay awake listening to the sound of the palace gate keys. Also, with each sound of the wind, I strain my ears imagining the jingling of jade ornaments on the horses of officials coming to court. This is because tomorrow morning I must write my opinions in a sealed memorial to present to the throne, so throughout the night I repeatedly ask my subordinates: "What time of night is it now?"
