「江南の旅情」　祖詠

楚の山は果てしなく、帰り道はただ寂しいばかりである。海の色は晴れているのに雨を見て、川の音は夜に潮の満ち引きを聞く。
剣は南斗星の近くに留まり、手紙は北風に託して遥か彼方へ送る。空潭の橘を都に届けたいと思うが、仲立ちしてくれる人もいない。

祖詠が楚の国を出て暫く呉に行き、また楚へ帰る時に作った詩である。楚国へ帰る山道も果てしなく、帰路はただもの寂しいことである。海の様子は晴れやかであるが、それでも片時雨で雨の降る様子も見える。川の水音は昼は物音に紛れて聞こえないが、夜になって静かになると潮の湧くひびきが聞こえる。腰に剣を帯び、南斗の星の近い所に留まり、手紙は北風に託して遥か彼方に送る。何とか知らせてやりたい。呉楚の空潭のあたりの橘は名産なので、北方の洛橋に送りたいと思うが、仲立ちになって世話してくれる者がない。実際は他国にいて不自由なことを嘆いたのである。「寄」の字が二つあるが、一方は写し間違いであろう。

"Traveling Sentiments in Jiangnan" by Zu Yong

The mountains of Chu stretch endlessly, and the homeward path is nothing but desolate. Though the sea appears clear, I see rain falling; at night I hear the river's sound and the tide's flow.
My sword remains near the Southern Dipper constellation, while letters are entrusted to the north wind and sent to distant places. I wish to report about the oranges of the empty pools, but there is no intermediary to send them to Luoqiao.

This poem was composed by Zu Yong when he left the state of Chu, briefly went to Wu, and then returned to Chu. The mountain path returning to the Chu kingdom seems endless, and the homeward journey is simply lonely and desolate. The sea's appearance is bright and clear, yet intermittent showers show signs of rain. The sound of the river water is drowned out by other noises during the day, but when night falls and all becomes quiet, one can hear the echoing sound of the surging tide. With a sword at my waist, I remain in a place near the Southern Dipper constellation, and I entrust letters to the north wind to send them to distant places. I somehow want to send word - the oranges around the empty pools of Wu and Chu are a famous local product, so I wish to send them to Luoqiao in the north, but there is no one to serve as an intermediary and help with this task. In truth, this laments the inconveniences of living in a foreign land. The character "寄" (send) appears twice; one instance may be a copying error.
