「王徴君と同じく洞庭に懐いあり」　張謂

八月洞庭の秋、瀟湘の水は北に流る。家に還る万里の夢、客となりて五更の愁い。書帙を開くことを用いず、偏に酒楼に上るに宜し。故人京洛に満つ、何れの日か復た同遊せん。

王は氏で、徴君とは天子より召されても世に望みなく出仕せず浪人している人をいう。八月は水気が盛んになったので洞庭の秋も涼しく美しく見渡され、瀟湘の二つの水の流れもすさまじく見える。この所に長逗留して故郷を懐かしく思ったので、在所に帰り妻子や親類に会った夢を見て嬉しかったが、夢が覚めたらもとの旅人で、五更の七時頃にまた愁いが増してきた。このような憂いつらい時には書物の帙を開いて見ることを用いられない。鬱散すべきために偏に酒を売る楼にでも上るのがよい。故人の輩が洛陽に満ちて居るけれども、何の日にかまた同じく遊ぶことがあろうか。

"Having the Same Thoughts as Wang the Reclusive Gentleman at Dongting Lake" by Zhang Wei

In the eighth month, autumn at Dongting Lake; the waters of Xiaoxiang flow northward. A dream of returning home across ten thousand li; as a traveler, the sorrow of the fifth watch. Not using the opening of book cases, it is best to go up to wine towers. Old friends fill the capital; on what day shall we travel together again?

Wang is a surname, and "reclusive gentleman" refers to a person who, even when summoned by the emperor, has no worldly ambitions and does not serve in office, remaining a masterless wanderer. In the eighth month, the water vapor becomes abundant, so the autumn at Dongting appears cool and beautiful as far as the eye can see, and the flow of the two waters of Xiaoxiang appears magnificent. Having stayed long in this place and thinking nostalgically of his hometown, he had a joyful dream of returning to his native place and meeting his wife, children, and relatives. But when he awoke from the dream, he was still the same traveler, and around the seventh hour of the fifth watch, his melancholy increased again. In such sad and painful times, one cannot make use of opening book cases to read. In order to dispel depression, it is better to go up to a tower where wine is sold. Though old friends and companions fill Luoyang, on what day shall we travel together again?
