This time, it is truly extraordinary - from China as well, and from the northern and western provinces, across all the various countries, spanning twelve provinces, let us inquire about the general circumstances of the places devastated by those earthquakes.
On the morning of the 28th day of the 10th month of this year, in the province of Owari, in Ōno District, at Ichino Takane which is Mount Hakusan, from the evening of the 25th day the mountain began rumbling and shaking violently. As the mountain grew increasingly violent, the villages at the foot of the mountain had no peaceful moment. Then from the morning of the 28th day, as if heaven and earth would collapse all at once, the light of a sea of fire burst forth with a roar. Before one could even say "What is this?", terrifyingly, in Higashi-Ōtani and Nishi-Neya villages, Hosoya and Nagashima - those village areas within a radius of three ri became a lake five to ten jō deep across the entire plain, and houses, people, and horses all fell to the bottom of the water, losing their lives without exception - a pitiful and tragic sight.
Now, in Mino and Owari, is today an unlucky day for Kaga as well? The destruction continued to Etchū and Echizen, Hida was also crushed, and tens of thousands of people suffered hardships and bitter experiences. The people of Mikawa were thrown about, and in Suruga province, one corner of the lofty peak of Mount Fuji collapsed, spewing sand and raining down burning stones, as if heaven and earth themselves would now collapse. Even prayers to the gods saying "Please save us" were in vain, and Tōtōmi too.
