現代語訳
このような憂き目に遭い、近江の国よ、伊賀に伊勢、祈りの激しいことよ。どうにもならない負傷者・死者が倒れ重なる。山城であれば岡も、河内も地面を揺さぶり、和泉・摂津・若狭に丹波をかけて、二十二ヶ国のわずかな間に、死人・負傷者その数知れず。名古屋市中の潰れた家は二千五百八十五軒、煉瓦造りは残らず崩れ落ちて微塵に砕けた中に、尾張・名古屋のお櫓だけは瓦一枚も損じのないのは世にも珍しい。今度の不思議よ。ヤレレ、ヤレレ。
《大地震くどき（下）》
さても、地震のその大荒れは、美濃・岐阜県・大垣あたりは潰れた家の数が六千余り、なお死人の調べの高は凡そ九百七十四人、ほかに負傷者その数知れず。わけても哀れなのは、織物会社の建物が三丁に三十間の四方、煉瓦の三階造りで、かかり役人七十四名、五百余人の工女と共に、思いがけない地震であったので、わっという間もなく。

In Yamashiro, the hills too, and Kawachi, the very ground shakes. Spanning Izumi, Settsu, Wakasa, and Tamba - across twenty-two provinces, within a brief span of time, the dead and injured are beyond counting. In the city of Nagoya, 2,585 houses collapsed; every brick building crumbled and was reduced to dust. Yet amidst all this, the great turret of Owari's Nagoya Castle did not lose a single roof tile - a truly extraordinary wonder in this calamity. Oh my, oh my!

And so! The great devastation of the earthquake: in Mino, in Gifu Prefecture, around Ōgaki, over six thousand houses were destroyed. Furthermore, the confirmed death toll reached approximately 974 people, and beyond that, the number of injured is beyond counting. Most pitiful of all was a textile company - its building stood three chō by thirty ken on each side, a three-story brick construction - with 74 staff officials and over 500 female factory workers, who, caught without warning by the unexpected earthquake, had no time even to cry out.
